With the top 10 in the general classification separated by just 22 seconds, Il Giro d’Abruzzo 2026 is set for a thrilling finale. The final stage will take the peloton 182 km from Silvi to Controguerra, with a finale that may not be overly selective but should still be explosive, and where bonus seconds could even prove decisive.
After the start in Silvi, the route heads inland over a succession of climbs and rolling roads towards the Sanctuary of San Gabriele at Isola del Gran Sasso. The race then turns north to tackle the climbs of Torricella Sicura and Campli before entering a 29.9 km circuit featuring two consecutive climbs close to the finish: Colonnella (6.4 km at 3.9%) and Controguerra (1.6 km at 4.6%). Both will be tackled twice in the final 40 km.
The Colonnella climb, in particular, includes several double-digit sections, with the final 400 metres averaging over 11%, while the run towards Controguerra will culminate in a long uphill sprint.
Netcompany Ineos will launch one final assault after the disappointment of the past two days, with Dorian Godon and Kévin Vauquelin both looking to fight for the stage win and the overall victory. Alessandro Fancellu (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) will need to defend his lead not only from them, but also from riders such as Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana), Niccolò Garibbo (Team Ukyo) and Ludovico Crescioli (Polti VisitMalta), and above all the Tudor duo of Lennart Jasch and Mathys Rondel.
