The stage winner Pavel Sivakov said: “Our tactic was to make it hard for Astana in the major climb today. I attacked there and I got caught by George Bennett so I started sucking wheels because we numbers in the back. That helped me save energy for a long time. It was my advantage for taking the win. I’ve been quite successful in Italy over the years. I was born in this country. There’s a special connection I guess. It’s a nice feeling to win. I started the season with an injury. It feels good to be back.”.
