Alexey Lutsenko wins Il Giro d’Abruzzo. Pavel Sivakov wins the final stage

The final stage, 173km from Montorio al Vomano to L’Aquila, was won by Pavel Sivakov (UAE Team Emirates). George Bennett (Israel – Premier Tech) and Alexey Lutsenko (Astana Qazaqstan Team) finished second and third, respectively.

The stage winner Pavel Sivakov said: “Our tactic was to make it hard for Astana in the major climb today. I attacked there and I got caught by George Bennett so I started sucking wheels because we numbers in the back. That helped me save energy for a long time. It was my advantage for taking the win. I’ve been quite successful in Italy over the years. I was born in this country. There’s a special connection I guess. It’s a nice feeling to win. I started the season with an injury. It feels good to be back.”.
